Lady Rockets win for first time at Madisonville
MADISONVILLE, Ky. – Crittenden County earned its first win ever at Madisonville Tuesday night, defeating the Maroons 61-50, by jumping out early and holding on late.
The Lady Rockets (21-5) surged to a 26-8 lead after one quarter and withstood a late Madisonville push to secure the historic road victory. The Lady Rockets defeated Madisonville two years ago in Marion, its only other victory over the Lady Maroons in more than 40 years.
Crittenden used offense rebounding and defensive pressure to disrupt Madisonville (10-14) early, forcing turnovers that led to transition points. The Lady Rockets led 36-19 at halftime and pushed the margin to 47-29 late in the third quarter after a 9-3 run capped by a Rushing hook shot with 2:39 remaining in the period.
Madisonville, which held a size advantage, found its rhythm in the fourth quarter and trimmed the deficit to 57-45 with 1:48 to play. The Maroons closed within 59-48 in the final minute, but Crittenden converted at the free-throw line to seal the win.
Senior Anna Boone led Crittenden with 25 points, including three 3-pointers. Sophomore Jordyn Hodge added 17 points with two 3s. The Lady Rockets shot 21 field goals, hit five 3-pointers and went 14 of 16 at the free-throw line.
Crittenden closes the regular season Friday at home against McLean County (18-8), one of the top teams in the 3rd Region.

MORTON’S GAP, Ky. – Hopkins Central pulled away early and never let up Thursday night, handing Crittenden County a 73-41 loss.
The Rockets fell behind 23-11 after one quarter and trailed 40-19 at halftime as Hopkins Central built separation with balanced scoring and efficiency at the free-throw line. The Storm shot 28 field goals and went 13 of 19 from the stripe.
Crittenden finished with 17 field goals and struggled at the line, converting just 4 of 13 attempts. Brayden Poindexter led the Rockets with 10 points, followed by Brady Dayberry with 9 and Conner Poindexter with 8.
Crittenden dropped its third straight game and fell to 2-25 on the season. Hopkins Central improved to 13-8. The Rockets will return home Friday night to host Webster County.

Henderson holds off Lady Rockets in key matchup
![]() |
| Jordyn Hodge scored her 1,000th point |
The proof, as the saying goes, is in the pudding. Crittenden County has still never beaten Henderson County, but… the gap has closed a bit.
The Lady Colonels escaped on their home floor with a 48-39 victory, upending the numbers and rendering pregame rankings largely irrelevant. Although the Lady Rockets led for much of the contest, going ahead with 6:30 to play in the second quarter on a Jordyn Hodge 3-pointer – which turned out to be a milestone bucket – and holding the advantage until 6:30 remained in the game, they were unable to control the closing stretch. That’s when Henderson’s A’Tylia Green, a McDonald’s All-American candidate, scored a half-dozen points in a row to give HCHS the upper hand. The Lady Colonels never relinquished it from there.
Crittenden County entered the road matchup ranked No. 1 in the measuring stick known as the KHSAA RPI – more formally, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Ratings Percentage Index. In essence, the RPI attempts to quantify a team’s standing relative to others, factoring heavily into strength of schedule and opponent success. In the absence of a formal Second Region media poll, it has become the most frequently cited barometer of comparative strength in regional high school basketball.
Henderson County came in ranked third in the RPI. Lyon County – which Henderson had dispatched just days earlier in Eddyville – sat at No. 2. On paper, the gap between Crittenden and Henderson amounted to a razor-thin 6.134 hundredths of a single RPI point.

Some numbers that did measure up for the Lady Rockets were personal milestones – reflections of a broader body of work. Sophomore Jordyn Hodge became the 14th Lady Rocket to join the 1,000-point club. She broke the tape on 1,000 with a 3-pointer to open the second quarter, giving CCHS a 15-13 lead.
Additionally, senior Elliot Evans surpassed the 500-rebound mark for her career – she already has 1,000 points – and senior Bristyn Rushing eclipsed 500 points and 500 rebounds for her career.
Lady Rocket coach Shannon Hodge said her team played less than four quarters of quality basketball but wasn’t terribly disappointed despite the loss.
“We got what we needed out of this game, which was to rub elbows with them and to kind of get a measuring stick of things and to know what we have to do to beat them,” Hodge said.
Senior Anna Boone led CCHS in scoring with 16 points, and Jordyn Hodge added 13.
While CCHS was unable to pull off a key road win, the Lady Rockets appear to have closed the gap somewhat. Henderson beat Crittenden 66-31 in last year’s Second Region championship game.
The Lady Colonels have won seven straight regional titles and 18 in 21 years. Crittenden County owns one of the few championships Henderson missed, winning the region in 2011. The teams could see one another again in a few short weeks in the regional tournament.
Crittenden County’s fourth quarter ultimately told the story. The Lady Rockets committed four turnovers and missed six field goals in the final period, producing 10 empty possessions at the worst possible time. They managed just four made shots in the quarter – including baskets from Rushing and Hodge along with a free throw – and were outscored 16-4 over the final eight minutes. That combination of stalled offense and lost possessions allowed Henderson to create separation late and turn a tight game into a decisive finish.
Henderson Co. 13 18 33 48
CRITTENDEN – Boone 16, Evans 5, Hodge 13, Federico, Rushing 5, Berry. FG 11. 3-pointers 5 (Boone 2, Hodge, 2, Evans). FT 10-14.
HENDERSON – Locher 6, Gish 10, Burnett 3, Green 20, Melvin 7, Evans 2. FG 17. 3-pointers 5 (Green 3, Melvin, Locher). FT 9-17.

Lady Rockets 6 wins from tying school record
![]() |
| Sophomore Jordyn Hodge is closing in on a personal milestone of her own. |
The Lady Rockets, now 19-4, defeated Hopkins Central Lady Storm 55-41 in a matchup of two teams that expect to be playing deep into the postseason. Hopkins Central fell to 17-9 but continued to show why it has been a consensus top-four team in the Second Region in recent seasons and a possible regional tournament rematch for Crittenden County.
Hopkins Central’s résumé includes losses to some of the best teams in western Kentucky, including Marshall County, Calloway County, McCracken County and Lyon County; along with setbacks to strong programs from elsewhere in the state during holiday tournaments, including Cooper from the Greater Cincinnati area, Louisville Manual, Rowan County and Bishop Brossart, which entered the week with 23 wins. Since 2020, the Lady Storm is 2-6 against Crittenden County.
Crittenden senior Elliot Evans was sidelined most of the first half by two early fouls, but Crittenden County leaned on its balance, particularly now that senior Chloe Hunt is once again available after coming off a lengthy injury. Hopkins Central struggled to convert around the basket, and the Lady Rockets took control with a 27-point second quarter. Back-to-back corner 3-pointers by Hunt and Anna Boone helped stretch the lead, and sophomore Jordyn Hodge capped the half with another triple from the same spot as Crittenden went to the locker room ahead 27-16.
Hopkins Central matched Crittenden shot for shot early in the third quarter and trimmed the margin to eight, but the Lady Rockets answered each push. With about six minutes remaining and holding a 10-point lead, Crittenden deliberately slowed the pace, working deeper into possessions and forcing Hopkins Central to play faster on offense. The strategy produced empty trips for the Lady Storm and allowed the margin to steadily grow down the stretch.
Boone finished with 20 points, Hodge added 19.
Hodge continues to close in on 1,000 career points, which would make her the team’s third to eclipse that milestone. Boone has already surpassed 2,000 for her career, while Evans reached the 1,000-point mark earlier this season.
The win moves Crittenden County Lady Rockets within six victories of tying the program’s single-season wins record, set previously in 2017 and 2023.
Attention now turns quickly to Thursday night, when the Lady Rockets travel to face Henderson County Lady Colonels in one of the most anticipated games of the regular season. The two programs met in last year’s Second Region championship, a 66-31 Henderson County win that secured the Lady Colonels’ seventh regional title in a row and 18th in 21 years. Crittenden County owns one of the few championships Henderson missed, winning the region in 2011.
Henderson County enters the matchup after a seven-point road win Tuesday at Lyon County, just days after the Lyons knocked off previously undefeated Calloway County, ranked No. 4 in Kentucky, a result that illustrates the challenge awaiting Crittenden County later this week.
Crittenden County 9 27 39 55
HOPKINS – White 4, Marsh 5, Menser 17, Mason 8, Liles 2, Dulin 5. FG 13. 3-pointers 6 (Marsh, Menser 3, Mason 2). FT 9-14.
CRITTENDEN – Boone 20, Evans 5, Hodge 19, Federico 4, Rushing 4, Holeman, Hunt 3. FG 13. 3-pointers 7 (Boone 2, Evans, Hodge 3, Hunt). FT 18-22.
Rockets get swamped by Caldwell County
PRINCETON, Ky. — Caldwell County pulled away early and cruised to a 104-55 win over Crittenden County on Monday night.
The Tigers led 28-10 after the first quarter, stretched the margin to 62-29 at halftime and was up 87-44 after three periods.
For Crittenden, Brady Dayberry led the scoring with 18 points. Conner Poindexter added 10, while Brayden Poindexter finished with seven. The Rockets made seven 3-pointers and went 4 of 6 at the free-throw line.
Crittenden fell to 2-24 on the season. Caldwell improved to 12-11.
Caldwell has now won seven straight in the series dating back to 2023 and is 20-2 against Crittenden over the past 10 seasons.
Crittenden returns home Thursday to host Hopkins Central, then plays Webster County on Friday at Rocket Arena. The Rockets have four regular-season games remaining, including matchups next week with Union County and Dawson Springs.

Hunt delivers in first varsity start
![]() |
| Senior Chloe Hunt stole the show in her first varsity start for the Lady Rockets. |
Hunt, who has undergone multiple surgeries on both knees because of a degenerative condition, had seen limited minutes in the previous game. Given the start, she made the most of it, scoring the first five points of the night and finishing with 10 points, just one shy of the team lead. Senior center Bristyn Rushing led Crittenden with 11 points.
“The adrenaline kept me going,” Hunt said. “I took a lot of medication before the game so I was ready to go.”
The opening moments were especially emotional, with teammates in tears and the crowd on its feet as Hunt knocked down her early shots.
Crittenden jumped out to a 26-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back, extending the margin to 44-10 by halftime. With the outcome decided early, the Lady Rockets were able to get their entire bench into the game during the second half.
Crittenden improved to 18-4 overall and posted its sixth straight win over Union County. The Lady Rockets will host Hopkins Central on Tuesday. Union County fell to 5-14.

Rockets can't retain momentum vs Falcons
MARION, Ky. — Coming off its second win of the season the night before, Crittenden County stayed within striking distance early but went cold from long range in a 76-53 loss to Fort Campbell on Friday night at Rocket Arena.
The Rockets managed just one 3-pointer in 16 attempts, a shooting slump that proved costly as the Falcons gradually pulled away. Fort Campbell led 17-14 after one quarter, extended the margin to 33-23 at halftime and took control with a 19-point third quarter.
Freshman Roane Topp continued his strong stretch, scoring 18 points for the second straight game and adding eight rebounds. Senior Brayden Poindexter finished with 11 points, while Emmitt Ellington scored 12, including 10 in the fourth quarter as Crittenden tried to close the gap.
Crittenden County was also hurt at the free-throw line, converting 10 of 23 attempts.
Fort Campbell placed four players in double figures and made seven three-pointers.
The loss was the fourth straight to Fort Campbell for the Rockets, who fell to 2-23. The Falcons improved to 7-13.

Lady Rocketas beat Chrstian with measure of Irony
![]() |
| Senior Chloe Hunt played for the first time in more than a year after a knee surgery. |
The Lady Rockets, ranked No. 1 in KHSAA's Second Region power rankings, got 26 points from its post players, but ironically, a sizable portion of that production came from beyond the arc as the Lady Rockets pulled away in the second half to beat Christian County 59-41 in a closely watched matchup at Rocket Arena.
Center Bristyn Rushing scored 15 points and forward Andrea Federico added 11. Each hit two 3-pointers, with Federico knocking down both of hers during a decisive third-quarter surge that, for practical purposes, put the Lady Colonels away and sealed the outcome. Federico scored 10 of her 11 points in that quarter. Rushing provided bookend 3s, connecting once in the opening period and again in the final frame.
Christian County’s nimble zone defense, coupled with cold shooting by the Lady Rockets early, kept the game close through the first half. After the break, the tide turned as Crittenden’s defense stifled the Lady Colonels and Rocket shots began to fall with more consistency.
Jordyn Hodge and Anna Boone also scored in double figures as the Lady Rockets improved to 17-4. Christian County, widely viewed as a regional contender in the preseason, fell to 7-8. The win evened the all-time series at 3-3 since 2011 and squared the teams at 2-2 over the past four seasons.
Hodge needs 33 points to become the third player on the current roster to reach the 1,000 Points plateau.
The Lady Rockets return home Saturday to celebrate Senior Night.

Rockets beat HCA for second win of season
![]() |
| Brayden Poindexter DOUBLE DOUBLE |
The Rockets (2-22) earned a 73-67 road win at Heritage Christian Academy, marking just their second victory this season, and only the second over the past two seasons following last year’s winless campaign.
Crittenden County’s last 70-point game came in a win in February 2024, coincidentally the final victory before the Rockets defeated HCA earlier this season to end a long losing skid. The last time CCHS scored more than 73 points was Jan. 21, 2003, when it posted 77 in a win over Christian Fellowship.
Heritage Christian fell to 1-20. Crittenden County also defeated HCA by 10 points in Marion on Jan. 6, snapping an almost two-year winless stretch.
Senior Brayden Poindexter led the Rockets with 17 points and 19 rebounds, while his sophomore brother, Conner Poindexter, added a career-high 13 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Roane Topp scored a career-high 18 points.
Brayden Poindexter scored 24 points in Crittenden County’s earlier win over HCA.
Crittenden led 15-13 after one quarter, took a 33-30 halftime advantage and carried a 54-44 lead into the fourth.
Heritage Christian 13 30 44 67

Rockets fade late in final district matchup
![]() |
| Caden Hutchison shoots a 3-pointer late. |
The teams traded blows early, playing to a 20-21 score after one quarter and deadlocking again at 21-21 midway through the second. A stretch of late first-half turnovers and empty possessions hurt Crittenden, allowing Trigg County to build a 32-23 halftime lead.
Crittenden responded after the break. Emmitt Ellington drilled a 3-pointer from the right wing with 5:10 left in the third quarter to give the Rockets their first lead of the second half at 33-32. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Trigg answered quickly and capitalized on more miscues. An 8-2 run late in the third pushed Trigg in front 42-37 at the end of the period.
The Wildcats continued to create separation in the fourth, extending the margin to double digits during another 8-2 spurt as Crittenden struggled to get shots to fall. Trigg maintained control down the stretch to secure the win.
Brady Dayberry led the Rocket scoring with 16 points and Emmitt Ellington and Brayden Poindexter had 9 apiece. CCHS dropped 10 three-pointers with Ellington and Dayberry striking three apiece.
The loss drops Crittenden County to 1-22 overall and 0-6 in district play, closing out the regular-season league schedule. Trigg improved to 6-14 overall and 2-2 in the district, with games remaining against Lyon County and Livingston Central.
The victory also continued Trigg County’s recent dominance in the series, marking its eighth straight win over Crittenden dating back to 2023.

Lady Rockets run table on 5th District
CADIZ, Ky. – While Crittenden County’s lopsided 56-20 win at Trigg County on Tuesday night in Cadiz may have drawn little attention beyond the final score, the significance of the victory was substantial.
With the win, this year’s senior class now stands alone as the winningest group in Crittenden County High School history, compiling 83 victories since their freshman season. Some of the seniors saw varsity action even before they were in high school.
The triumph was the Lady Rockets’ sixth straight in Fifth District play this season, completing a clean sweep of the regular-season round robin and locking up the undisputed No. 1 seed for the district tournament, which will be played later this month at Rocket Arena. It marked the first time in two years Crittenden (16-4) has gone unbeaten in regular-season district competition. Today’s seniors were freshman when it happened last.
The victory also continued Crittenden’s firm grip on the series. The Lady Rockets have now won 12 consecutive meetings with Trigg County (9-9), a streak that dates back to a loss in the 2020 district tournament championship game.
