Lady Rockets beat Bash host Spartans

Jordyn Hodge at the foul in the fourth period

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In a closely played contest Friday afternoon at the South Warren First Bank Bash, Crittenden County's girls' basketball team erased a six-point deficit to edge out the tournament hosts 63-59.

The Lady Spartans, arguably one of the state’s most competitive winless teams, took a four-point lead into halftime. Their defensive maneuvering successfully limited Lady Rockets' star scorer Anna Boone in the second period, while South Warren shot well from beyond the arc.

In the third quarter, Boone found her rhythm, scoring 9 of her game-high 24 points to keep the game close. The turning point came in the fourth quarter, with Jordyn Hodge stepping up to deliver 10 crucial points, including five free throws in the final two minutes. Hodge’s performance helped Crittenden County secure the lead for good with 5:45 remaining when she stole a pass and went to the other end of the floor for a basket.

The Lady Rockets improved to 7-1 on the season, while the Lady Spartans dropped to 0-7 against a tough early-season schedule around the Bowling Green area. South Warren's lineup was much larger physically, than CCHS and it had a deeper bench.

Crittenden County will take on Walton-Verona (7-2) from Northern Kentucky at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a matchup against South Oldham (4-3) at 3:30 p.m.
