Lyons beat Rockets for 2nd straight district title


EDDYVILLE, Ky. – Lyon County opened up a close game with a series of three-pointers in the third period and went on to beat the Rockets 78-65 in the Fifth District championship game Friday.

Lyon won its second straight district championship and 21st in school history.

The Rockets, playing in the title game for the third year in a row (something that hadn’t happened since 1958), kept the game close in the first half, but Lyon went ahead by 16 in the third period.

Crittenden trimmed it back to single digits for a brief time in the fourth quarter, but Lyon maintained a comfortable lead down the stretch.

Crittenden senior Erik O’Leary and juniors Gabe Mott and Preston Turley were named to the All-Tournament team.

Lady Rockets fall to Trigg in district final

EDDYVILLE, Ky. – Crittenden Count led most of the way, but fell behind in the final minutes and Trigg County was deadly at the line in the closing seconds.

The Lady Wildcats won the Fifth District Tournament 48-40. It was their second straight tournament crown.

Crittenden County's Taylor Guess, Nahla Woodward and Jaelyn Duncan were named to the All-District Team.

Crittenden puts 3 on all-region teams


Crittenden County put three players on the boys’ and girls’ All-Second Region teams, which were announced this week.

Junior Rockets Gabe Mott and Preston Turley and freshman Lady Rocket Taylor Guess were chosen to their respective teams by area coaches.

CCHS falls in tight DH at old Butler gym

It took an overtime session before the Lady Rockets succumbed to foul trouble and Caldwell County on Tuesday night and the Rockets led late before falling to the Tigers.

The games were played at the old Butler High School gymnasium in Princeton. Billed as #BacktoButler the throwback venue was aimed at unveiling a new floor recently completed at the gym, where the middle school and elementary school teams play games.

CCHS sweeps Dawson on Hall of Fame Night

Crittenden County's boys' and girls' basketball teams swept Dawson Springs in a doubleheader on Friday as senior basketball player Erik O'Leary was crowned homecoming king before he scored 20 points in the win. See summaries for scoring.

Kiana Ross was crowned homecoming queen and the Farmers Bank Marino-Crittenden County Athletics Hall of Fame inducted Clark Wheeler and the late Nicky Winders. See this week's printed edition of The Crittenden Press for all their stories.

Rockets fall to Croft's Cardianls

Former Rocket Payton Croft brought his Mayfield Cardinals basketball to Marion Saturday afternoon and handed Crittenden County at 78-47 loss.

The Rockets were playing shorthanded as senior and third-leading scorer Erik O'Leary was out with an ankle injury.

Sophomore Hayden Adamson got the start in his place.

Gabe Mott led the scoring with with 18 points and Preston Turley had a dozen.

Croft, the son of former CCHS coach Jimmy Croft, had previously coach at Trigg County, but resigned last summer to take the Mayfield position.
