Lady Rockets win 42-34 at Fort Campbell

County's girls are now 6-10 on the season after winning at Fort Campbell Friday night. The girls play at Caldwell County Saturday.

The refs didn't show up for Friday's JV game on the military base, so Coach Shannon Hodge grabbed a whistle and called that contest. Then, she led her team to victory in the nightcap. It was a close one, though. The Lady Rockets led by 11 with about five minutes to go, but Fort Campbell cut it to three in the last two minutes.

Chelsea Oliver scored 15 and Mallory McDowell had 10 for CCHS.

Caldwell routs Rockets in Class A semifinal

Crittenden County lost to Caldwell County 68-36 in the semifinal round of the All A Classic Friday at Dawson Springs.

University Heights beat Livingston Central in the other semifinal game, setting up Saturday's championship game between the Blazers and Tigers.

Crittenden's Colby Watson, who scored seven points in the game, talks about Caldwell's talented lineup in the above video. The Tigers forced Crittenden into several early turnovers and converted 13 points off those miscues in the first half alone.

Dakota Watson led the Rockets with 11 points and Aaron Owen scored nine. Noah Dickerson also had seven points in the losing effort. The Rockets have now lost six straight.

Caldwell's Elijah Sindelar led his team with 18 points. He scored 10 in the second period when the Tigers pulled away.

The Rockets will open All A Classic Tournament play tonight in the semifinals of the Second Region at Dawson Springs. Crittenden received a first-round bye and will face Caldwell County tonight. Tipoff is at 7:30. It's the second game of a doubleheader. Livingston Central faces UHA in the 6 p.m. game.

WMJL Radio will not be carrying tonight's game because an access line was not available at the Dawson Springs gym.

The Tigers, 10-5 with the fifth best record in the region, have won four their last five games – granted two of them were against Dawson Springs, which is the worst team in the region. Still, Caldwell is a formidable foe. The Tigers beat CCHS 65-44 at Rocket Arena in the season-opener.

Crittenden, now 5-13, has lost five straight games. The last loss, at Fort Campbell, was especially tough to swallow. The Falcons had just one victory coming into that matchup.

Travis Gilbert (pictured above) started at Fort Campbell and scored 11 points. Starting two-guard Landon Young missed that game because of a mild concussion. Young will be out again tonight and Gilbert will likely get the starting nod. Gilbert's 11 against Fort Campbell was second only to Devin Belt's team-high 12 points.

Owen gets his 1,000th in losing effort vs. tough Marshals

Coach Hodge presents Owen with the game ball.

Senior guard Aaron Owen joined the 1,000-point club Saturday night in a game against Marshall County. Owen was the Rockets' leading scorer with 10 points, but Crittenden lost 57-37.

The game was stopped with just over three minutes to play when Owen made a foul shot to reach the milestone. Coach Denis Hodge presented Owen with a signed game ball and Owen went into the stands to get some congratulatory hugs from his family.

Owen now has 1,001 points in his career. The following is his season-by-season breakdown:

  • 190 so far as a Senior
  • 376 as a Junior
  • 296 as a Sophomore
  • 130 as a Freshman
  • 9 as an Eighth Grader

Lady Rockets get third; boys fall to Trigg again

Coach Shannon Hodge's team collected three straight wins this week and the third one wrapped up third place in the Fifth District for the Lady Rockets. CCHS downed Trigg 55-42 on the road Friday. Cassidy Moss scored 21 to lead Crittenden.

Crittenden made easy work of the Lady Wildcats for the second time in five days and the Marion girls also beat Dawson Springs this week, giving them a 5-10 overall record. That gives the CCHS girls more wins this season than in either of the past two years when they won just four each.

The girls are now 2-4 in the district and will likely play Livingston Central in the first round of the post-season tournament, which will be at Rocket Arena. Livingston beat Lyon by four Friday night.

Meanwhile, the Rocket boys lost for the second time this year to Trigg County. Now, the Wildcats have an outright claim first place in the district and CCHS will finish second, likely facing Livingston Central in the post-season tournament. The Cardinals beat Lyon Friday night, but the teams have one more meeting which will determine final post-season seeding.

Crittenden led Trigg by one in the fourth period, but senior center Devin Belt fouled and Trigg quickly a lead it will continue to build upon until the end. The Rockets lost 57-48. Aaron Owen led the offense with 13 points, leaving him nine shy of the coveted 1,000-point career milestone. He will likely get there tonight when CCHS hosts Marshall County in a boys' JV and varsity doubleheader.

Girls win, boys fall in close one to Webster

Crittenden County's boys were ahead by six in the second half, but couldn't hold the lead against Webster County. The Trojans won 58-53 at Rocket Arena Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Lady Rockets won for the second straight night, beating Dawson Springs on the road.

CCHS's teams will be off until Friday when they travel to Trigg County for a district varsity doubleheader.

The Lady Rockets have already knocked off Trigg's girls once this week and could win their third straight on Friday. The boys could also grab a share of the Fifth District title by winning at Cadiz.
