Elliot Evans fights for a loose ball during the Lady Rockets' win over Caldwell County. |
The Lady Rockets rushed out to a 17-point lead in the first period as senior Taylor Guess scored 16 of her game-high 26 points in the opening stanza. Crittenden built its lead by pressuring the ball and forcing Caldwell into turnovers.
In the second half, the Rocket girls cooled from the floor and the Lady Tigers drew within nine with about a minute to go in the period. Guess reeled off a couple of field goals and Elliot Evans drained a three-pointer minutes later in the third to push CCHS’s lead back to 20.
Evans stayed hot in the final period, scoring eight of her career-high 15 as CCHS won going away. Guess finished with a double-double, grabbing 16 rebounds to go along with her offensive production.
The Lady Rockets will play University Heights, which beat Fort Campbell 89-23 Monday, in Thursday’s semifinal round at UHA in Hopkinsville. Crittenden improved to 11-3 on the season and still hasn’t lost to a team in the Second Region.
