Rockets in Tennessee for post-Christmas hoops

Sophomore Gabe Mott leads
CCHS in scoring.
Crittenden County will return to the floor for post-Christmas basketball action tonight against Cheatham County, Tenn., in the Stewart County, Tenn., Holiday Tournament at Dover, Tenn.

Friday's 4:30pm opponent, Cheatham County, is located in Ashland City, Tenn., about 20 miles northwest of Nashville. The Cubs are 3-8 this season and ranked 89th in the state's Division I Class 2A.

On Saturday, the Rockets will play Sycamore, another 2A school just north of Nashville. The War Eagles have beaten Cheatham County by three points already this season. The two play together in the same 9th District in middle Tennessee’s Region 5. Sycamore is 3-0 in district play this year and 8-3 overall. The War Eagles are ranked 42nd in the state in their division. Saturday's game begins at noon.

The Rockets played well for the most part at last week's Hancock County Christmas Tournament where they beat Eminence and Williamston to go 2-1 in the holiday event. The Rockets lost to Whitesville Trinity.

Gabe Mott continues to play well for the Rockets. The sophomore point guard scored 55 points in three games at Hancock County and currently leads the Rockets with an 18.8 scoring average. He is the only Rocket averaging in double figures. Sophomore Preston Turley and senior Sawyer Towery are scoring just over nine points apiece.
