Lady Rockets stumble in Fifth District finale
CCHS coach Shannon Hodge was frustrated by her team's inability to score vs. Lyon. |
Although the Lady Rockets shot poorly for three periods and fell behind by as many as 20 points, the girls did manage to score more points in the fourth period than they had the previous three quarters, which kept fans in their seats as the game closed. Crittenden pulled to within six points with seconds remaining, but Lyon won 45-37.
Chelsea Oliver scored 17 for Crittenden and had 7 rebounds. Becca Somers had 20 for Lyon and Barrett Blackburn 14.

Wacky finish lets Trigg slip away
Crittnden was a bit frustrated with its narrow loss to Trigg County. |
Tournament championship from Crittenden County for the second straight season.
It was a close one from start to finish with neither team ever having more than a 7-point lead. Trigg actually led by a slight margin most of the way, but Crittenden County tied it down the wire.
Some missed shots and a timeout mistake were among the stumbling blocks CCHS had to overcome in the final seconds to get off a half-court desperation shot at the buzzer that just missed.
Both teams will qualify for next week's Second Region Tournament at Morganfield. See next week's printed edition of The Press for more on this exciting and highly-contested district championship matchup.

Lady Rocket coach Shannon Hodge says her team wants it all. See this week's printed edition of The Crittenden Press for the story. The newspaper will be on sale this afternoon.

Snow could jeopardize final week of season
Crittenden County's boys (15-10) are scheduled to play Hopkins Central (12-15) on the road Monday and then host the same team on Tuesday in a varsity doubleheader at Rocket Arena.
With the winter storm forecast, it appears the final week of the regular season could be in jeopardy.
There is also a varsity doubleheader scheduled for Friday at Fort Campbell. The Falcon boys are 5-18 and the Lady Falcons are 4-22.
Hopkins Central's girls are 18-10 on the season, but only beat Crittenden (15-10) by five at Nortonville earlier this season.
