Rockets fall 82-29 at Apollo

OWENSBORO, Ky. – A long road trip to Owensboro Apollo Saturday turned into a difficult pill to swallow as the Rockets fell behind early and lost 82-29.

Shorthanded due to injury and illness, Crittenden never found it rhythm.

The good news is several young players got into the game and earned some invaluable experience. Crittenden was behind 51-8 at the half and was a never a threat to the much stronger Eagles (5-1).


For the winless Rockets, freshman Drake Young led the way with 11 points, which included three treys. He was the only Crittenden player in double figures.


The Rockets will be at Eddyville Tuesday for a district game against Lyon County, ranked No. 21 in Kentucky.

Cardinals beat Crittenden by 30

MARION, Ky. – Crittenden County had nothing to stop Livingston Central’s roll in Friday’s Fifth District matchup at Rocket Arena. The Cardinals led by a comfortable margin early and handily won the Fifth District matchup 75-35. 

Livingston, behind three players in double figures, beat the Rockets for the third straight time.

The Cardinals are now 2-1 and 1-1 in district play while Crittenden slips to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league action.

Crittenden will go to Lyon County Tuesday to complete its first trip through the district. The Lyons are ranked No. 21 in the state and are 5-0 on the season after beating Union County on the road Friday. 

Livingston will host Trigg County for a key district matchup on Tuesday. Each team has one win in league play.

Lady Rockets beat Cards to stay undefeated

 


MARION, Ky. – After weathering some early foul issues, Crittenden County unleashed a lockdown defense in the fourth period to beat Livingston Central 55-38 going away Friday at Rocket Arena to remain undefeated. 

Anna Boone had her best offensive game of the season, scoring 20 points despite picking up two early fouls. 

Livingston led by a couple of points in the first half, but Crittenden stretched out a 10-point lead by the half behind three baskets from Boone. The Lady Cardinals, led by senior Victoria Joiner, who had 20 points for the game, were able to peel off a 15-5 run when CCHS went cold in the third quarter.

After leading by three to start the final period, Crittenden turned up the defensive heat and held Livingston virtually scoreless the rest of the way. Joiner had one foul shot in the fourth quarter for her team’s only offense down the stretch.

Crittenden improves to 5-0 and 2-0 in the Fifth District. Livingston is 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league play. 

The Lady Rockets will finish their first trip through the district round-robin on Tuesday with a highly anticipated matchup with Lyon County at Eddyville. Livingston plays Marshall County Saturday in the Holiday Hoopla Classic at Paducah.

Rockets fall in OT at Trigg County


In a see-saw battle at Trigg County, the Rockets came up short in overtime as the Wildcats prevailed 72-69. The contest was a showdown between coaching cousins, Crittenden County’s Matt Fraliex and Trigg’s Michael Fraliex.

The Rockets led by 11 in the first half, but Trigg spun up a 16-0 run to start the third quarter, taking a lead it would hang onto until the final seconds of regulation when Rocket Chase Conyer’s putback tied it at 59. Crittenden played the final 5:39 of regulation and all of overtime without its point guard after CamRon Belcher fouled out in the fourth.

Trigg opened overtime with a couple of dunks, but CCHS stayed close in the final seconds thanks to a three-pointer from Drake Young.

Girls open district with victory at Trigg

Crittenden County’s girls opened Fifth District action Tuesday with a 60-34 victory at Trigg County, setting a positive course for their campaign toward another district crown.

Now, the Lady Rockets turn their attention to completing a sweep of the first run through the district’s regular-season round-robin over the next week, hosting Livingston Central Friday and going to Eddyville Tuesday to face the Lady Lyons.

CCHS went up early by nearly 20 points then Trigg trimmed it back to nine at one point in the third period before the Rocket girls pulled away behind a one-two scoring punch from Anna Boone and Elliot Evans, who had 21 and 14, respectively. Center Bristyn Rushing added 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Rockets improving, but fall to Union

MARION, Ky. – Starting to find its offense, Crittenden County improved from its first outing of the season, but lost it second game in a row, falling 61-44 to Union County at Rocket Arena.

CCHS led early and had it not been for a Union three at the buzzer would have led at the end of the first period. However, the Braves – playing with out two starters because its football team in headed to the state championship – picked up steam and raced out to a 20-point lead by the third period. 

Senior CamRon Belcher led the Rockets with 18 points and was the only Rocket in double figures.

The Rockets have beaten Union County only three times in the last 17 meetings. 

Crittenden will open Fifth District play Tuesday at Trigg County.

Lady Rockets win third straight to start season

MARION, Ky. – The Lady Rockets remain undefeated to start the season after beating Union County 58-41 Thursday at Rocket Arena.

Crittenden County weathered some ball control issues in the first half, but gained momentum in the second half and pulled away by 10 in the third period. The lead was extended in the final quarter to 20 points en route the victory.

Junior guard Elliot Evans led the Lady Rockets 13 points, including three treys and Anna Boone and Bristyn Rushing added 10 apiece as CCHS had balanced scored for the third time in three games.

Crittenden, now 3-0, has beaten Union County four of the last five meetings. Senior Paige Steward led the Lady Braves (0-2) with 18 points.

Lady Rockets forge comeback to beat Todd

DRAFFENVILLE, Ky. – In a tough early-season matchup Wednesday night in the prestigious Marshall County HoopFest, Crittenden County (2-0) overcame an early deficit to secure a hard-fought victory against Todd Central (1-1), winning 61-59. 

The Lady Rockets started sluggishly on offense, trailing early by as many as 8 points. However, Morgan Stewart provided a pivotal spark off the bench, scoring a team-high 19 points and being named MVP of the game.

Crittenden also got double-digit contributions from Anna Boone and Andrea Federico. The team’s improved second-half shooting, including 3-pointers by Elliot Evans and Jordyn Hodge, helped close the gap and shift momentum. Stewart also scored six points in a row to lift CCHS to seven-point lead, its largest of the second half late in the fourth period. 

Crittenden's consistency at the foul line, shooting 19-for-25, further solidified their comeback effort.

Todd Central was Fourth Region Tournament runnerup last season.

The Lady Rockets will be back in action Thursday night at home against Union County in a girl-boy doubleheader that tips off a 6pm.

The Lady Rockets picked up their first win of the season at Caldwell County, but the Rockets lost at home to Webster County.
