Rockets fall to Greenwood at LaRue Tourney

Crittenden County got behind early in what turned out to be something of a long-range shooting contest and could never recover despite 11 points apiece from two Rockets – Dakota Watson and Will Tolley.

Tolley got nine of his points from long range as Crittenden was beaten 57-47. The Rockets were outscored 12-3 in the first quarter and Greenwood maintained that lead the rest of the way.

There were 13 three-pointers made in the contest.

Crittenden has lost 12 straight.

Moss gets 1K, but girls unwind in final holiday minutes

Junior Cassidy Moss celebrates her 1,000th career point
with classmates after the Russellville game Wednesday.
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Crittenden County’s girls played perhaps their best 28 contiguous minutes of basketball during the holiday season on Wednesday afternoon against tournament host Russellville. However, the windfall of good tidings unwrapped in the last part of the fourth quarter and the girls headed home empty handed from the First Southern National Bank Christmas Classic, losing 53-42 to the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Rockets lost all three games at Russellville despite being outmatched not once. They either led or trailed by as few as one point in the last half in all three games. Crittenden was up four with just over three minutes to play against Russellville but after the Panther girls tied the game at 40, Crittenden committed three straight turnovers, opening the door for the hosts to sneak away with a win.

Although the girls’ two-tournament holiday record of 1-5 was disappointing, there was a sideline of cheer for Crittenden. Junior Cassidy Moss reached the 1,000-point plateau in her career in the game against Russellville. She scored 17 and classmate Meredith Evans added a career-high one dozen points against the Lady Panthers. Moss had 11 points at the line. The entire tournament was slowed by whistles. In the girls’ three games at Russellville, there 186 foul shots taken.

Crittenden played all six Christmas season games without starting guard Amanda Lynch, who has been gone on a family trip. She is the team’s second leading scorer with a nine-point average.

Girls tripped up in Foul Fest at Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Three starters fouled out, including Lady Rocket leading scorer Cassidy Moss, and the Crittenden girls watched what was an early double-digit lead disappear in a 10-point loss to Central Hardin at the Russellville Holiday Classic.

Moss had 27 points while she was in the game, but fouled out with 5:35 to play and the Lady Rockets trailing by six. Kiana Nesbitt and Francesca Pierce also fouled out. Crittenden was whistled for 24 fouls, but Central Hardin was blown for 34.

The Lady Rockets were 36-52 at the line. It was their third straight loss.

Rockets fall again at LaRue Tournament

HODGENVILLE, Ky. – Crittenden County was stung by a series of long-range shots as Trimble County beat the Rockets 57-45 in the second round of the LaRue County Holiday Tournament.

The Rockets got 15 points for freshman Gavin Dickerson, but it wasn't enough to fend off Trimble's three-point shooting.

Lady Rockets let chance slip away

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Crittenden County's second-half defense Tuesday trimmed a 16-point deficit back to a one-point game with six minutes to play, but then couldn't find the offense to overcome Christian County.

The Lady Rockets (6-5) had five empty possessions after closing to 47-46 on Madison Champion's fast-break layup and allowed the Lady Colonels to escape with a 58-48 win in the first round of the Russellville Christmas Tournament.

Cassidy Moss scored 22 and Champion had 11 for Crittenden County.

Christian County (6-6) freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton had 14 and six-foot sophomore center Trinitee Jackson scored 13 and grabbed 18 rebounds.

In the loser's bracket, the Lady Rockets play either Logan County or Central Hardin at 6:15 this evening.

Elsewhere in the Fifth District tonight, Livingston beat Trigg 59-35.
